Look at the Moon
There is something unique about seeing the moon in the telescope from your own eyes.
The moon in our bare eyes is a glowing sphere. It is so far from the earth to have much character other than a shiny lollipop. It seems ordinary because it is always there every night we look up into the sky. It is an object in the news and in textbooks and it’s easy to forget about its beauty.
On a visit to the Rancho Mirage Observatory in southern California, Eric McLaughlin, the Astronomer there, shows the magic of seeing the moon in the telescope from your own eyes.
The telescope lens brings a new perspective about the moon. It offers a creepy amount of details of the craters, ridges, valleys, the light, and the shades. The spherical surface is not at all smooth, and not at all just one spot of light. The The moon in the telescope is whimsical that you want to pet it. Wow.
Of everything we know about the moon, only until seeing it like this that we feel it.
